SO the big question with Standard is how to get all the characters interacting so I have a pretty good solution for that;
Since Ruka and Rua are Synchro duelists and Rua is Rua, Rua can challenge Yuya to a duel during that time where all the people are hanging around Yuya trying to get him to show off Pendulum. Whether he does or not, Rua goes all Emissary of Love and Peace and synchros a bunch of times. Maybe someone asks him about it after the duel because wow synchro summoning.
Rua is like 'what my sister can do it to, what's a duel school??' and it spreads like wildfire that there are these two unaffiliated synchro duelists and recruiting them basically means your school can get access to synchro summoning since LDS usually keeps that shit on lock. So all the characters basically go after them to recruit them. Maybe even someone (HIRAGI? REIJI?) insists they go to Maiami Middle School with all the other characters since I think we decided that was basically the Standard 'hub'.
